While watching Golden Globes, one winner thanks his mom in his speech:
Mother: “So… if you were to win an Oscar, will you mention and thank me?”
Me: “No comment – ”
Father: (weak laugh) “No, he’ll get up and say how she delayed me in this path -”
Me: “No comment.”
“No, I don’t agree, you are very successful in being Egyptian. I’ve seen you speak and deal with the Egyptian people [at church] and you are able to deal with them in a very real way. You speak well. Seriously, you’ve done well… you just don’t have that biting part which is not your fault because your father and I have been away from Egypt from so long that we haven’t absorbed that into your characters. All in all, you’re very successful, don’t think otherwise.”
“No, no, no you are the inspiration here. This weekend showed you doing things I never thought were humanly possible.”
